Ripped Abs: Don’t Complicate Things!
A lot of people who are new to training seem to believe there is an almost legendary quality to well developed ripped abs and treat it as the holy grail of bodybuilding. As a result it is a commonly held belief that they are far more difficult to achieve than they actually are. The simple truth is that your abs are a muscle group that can be worked on in the same way that any of the other muscle groups can be.
Developing and maintaining lean ripped abs is not rocket science, while there is a degree of technical knowledge you need to be aware of, the real secret to reaching your desired goal can be boiled down to just three or four areas and as long as you equip yourself with this knowledge then you can and will make it happen. Lean ripped abs will be yours for the taking. However, it is irrelevant how much information you take on board, it will be utterly useless unless you put it into action, set your goals and stick to them rigidly. You will make it happen by concentrating on the following areas:
1. Weight Training
There is no getting away from it, weight training is absolutely essential to getting ripped abs and muscular definition in every part of your body. You will need to establish exactly what you are trying to achieve. If your ultimate goal is to build strength and mass in your abs then you will have to focus on lifting bigger weights and reducing the number of reps accordingly. The reverse is also true, if you want leaner abs then concentrate on lifting a lighter weight but counteract this by increasing your rep rate. The great news here however, is the fact that the more you develop the muscle mass in your abs then the more it will burn off the excess fat around your belly and provide the muscles with all the energy they will need. The lower your body fat the better your odds of actually seeing those ripped abs.
2. Diet
This is absolutely fundamental in your quest for ripped abs and the body you have always desired. It is also the one area that is ignored far too much by the vast majority of occasional trainers. Just remember though that if you finish a fantastic workout and then celebrate at Mcdonalds with a couple of big macs then you have very little chance of reaching your goals. This may sound obvious but you would be amazed at how many people actually do this. To achieve a lean muscular physique with chiselled ripped abs you will simply have to have a great diet plan in place. In order to really build muscle mass you have to significantly increase your protein intake, and if you really want to see the difference when you look in the mirror then you will have to work on dropping your body fat, preferably to a single digit number if at all possible. Therefore it is vital to have a strict low fat high fibre and protein rich diet. I would always advise having all your meals planned well in advance in order to reduce the risks of “snacking”
3. Getting Assistance
Don’t forget that you are never on your own. Don’t be afraid to seek help from health and fitness professionals and to make yourself familiar with the right type of supplements. Achieving lean ripped abs will mean taking on board a significant amount of minerals, nutrients and multivitamins. Make it a priority to become familiar with some quality supplements, for example Creatine, a great protein for developing muscle mass, Chromium which helps in speeding up the metabolism, and Glutamine which is great for providing all the necessary energy for those intense workouts you will be performing. As you begin on your journey to ripped abs always, but always stick to natural supplements. Stay away from any type of dubious or illegal substances at all costs. Lean ripped abs are wonderful but living a safe and healthy life is probably more important. Good luck.
